DaimlerChrysler Canada Reports September Car Sales Down 17.2 Percent

Windsor, Ontario, Oct 03, 2005 -- DaimlerChrysler Canada today reported a total of 16,115 units sold in September, including 3,419 cars and 12,696 trucks. Car sales decreased 17.2 percent from 4,130 units last year and truck sales are down 1.1 percent from September 2004 sales of 12,840 units. Compared to September 2004 combined sales for the month are down 5.0 percent. Calendar-year-to-date sales totaled 171,402 units, up 4 percent compared to last year’s sales of 164,781 units. September marks the conclusion of the Employee Pricing Plus campaign, which launched in Canada in July. During the third quarter, the combination of new products and this pricing program drove a 12.8 percent increase in combined sales totaling 55,632 units for the same period in 2004.

“Through the remainder of the year, DaimlerChrysler Canada will focus on combining product leadership with targeted value promotions to continue our sales growth,” said Bernie Clement, Vice-President, Sales and Service, DaimlerChrysler Canada. “Additional products such as the Jeep ® Commander and Dodge Ram Mega-Cab will give our dealers even more choices to offer consumers.”

September sales highlights

The all-new, Canadian-built Dodge Charger is gaining market momentum with 385 units squealing off dealer lots this month. Canada’s perennial favourite, the Dodge Caravan sold 5,365 units up 34.4 percent over September 2004. Chrysler PT Cruiser and PT Cruiser Convertible enjoyed another strong showing this month with combined sales of 895 units up 62 percent over last September. The Canadian marketplace continues its positive response to the Jeep Grand Cherokee with monthly sales of 724 units up 4 percent.
